More commonly referred to as the ceiling, the “fifth wall” as some designers like to call it, is a blank canvas, just waiting for you to enhance! Because it can be often ignored, adding elements to it is a sudden style moment that no one saw coming! Wood beams, coffered patterning, paneling, wallpaper or paint…all of these choices can create a specialty look. With paint, instead of the basic white that is commonly used, try “color drenching,” which uses the same color on the walls, the ceiling and the trim.
Light It Up.
It probably comes as no surprise that adding lights to a space can change the ambiance. How important are they, though? One beautiful chandelier, or a collection of pendants, can create the mood of the space and tie in the finishing touches. To add further usage to small areas of the room, consider wall scones or floor lamps. These elements allow for quiet spaces that exude a softness for a cozy night in.
Add Storage, But Make It Pretty.
Is there anything better in home design when a look is stylish, but it also adds function to your life? Enter the “built in” concept. We’ve seen these everywhere, from mudrooms and living rooms, to home offices and dens.
